AN INTRODUCTION BY MARY TEEGEE
Executive Director Carrier Sekani Family Services
Our Vision: A world we imagine
A future where Indigenous women, girls and LGBTQQIA2S+ people are protected, safe and no longer victimized due to a national intolerance of inequalities such as racism, sexism and economic disparity.
Our Mission: What we do now
Our Spirit is an Indigenous resurgence to lift up and empower Indigenous girls, women and LGBTQIA2S+ people and to stop the murder and disappearance of our loved ones. Walking together with all Canadians we will implement the Calls to Justice.
Our Spirit History
Our Spirit is an Indigenous resurgence of family members of missing and murdered Indigenous women who draw strength from the spirit of women we’ve lost whose spirits are always among us.
Our Spirit was started by family members of women and girls who went missing or were murdered along the Highway of Tears in Northern BC who seek to strengthen the Indigenous resurgence across Canada working to end violence towards Indigenous women and their communities. This work was initiated by the Carrier Sekani Family Services Highway of Tears Governing Body.

Team
Highway of Tears Governing Body
Our Spirit and the Highway of Tears Governing Body are Indigenous-led by families of missing and murdered loved ones.
We strengthen connection between families of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls across Canada.
We support Indigenous communities across Canada to create their own customized community safety plan building on their own strengths and solutions.
We educate Canadians about the murder and disappearance of our Indigenous girls, women and 2SLGBTQQIA people and what we can do to stop this injustice.
We demand accountability and respectful workplace policies and practices of corporations who operate work sites and worker accommodation camps in close proximity to Indigenous communities. We will end toxic workplace cultures that tolerate violence and abuse towards Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people.
We continue to implement the hundreds of Calls for Justice and other Indigenous calls to action that prevent MMIWG in Canada with all Indigenous communities and through government engagement.
