An Indigenous resurgence to end the disappearance and murder of Indigenous girls, women and LGBTQQIA2S+ people in Canada.

STOP THE MURDER AND DISAPPEARANCE OF OUR LOVED ONES.

Walking together with all Canadians we will implement the Calls to Justice.

AN INTRODUCTION BY MARY TEEGEE

Executive Director Carrier Sekani Family Services

Building a future where Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people are protected, safe and no longer victimized due to a national tolerance of inequalities such as racism, sexism and economic disparity.

Time for Change

From August 2016 – June 2019 Canada conducted a National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls

2386 participants were involved in the Truth Gathering Process.

1484 family members and survivors provided testimony.

819 individuals shared through artistic expressions.

83 experts, knowledge-keepers and officials provided testimony.

15 community hearings were held.

9 knowledge-keeper, expert and institutional hearings were held.

The National Inquiry’s final report clearly shows that persistent deliberate human and Indigenous rights violations and abuses are the root cause behind Canada’s staggering rates of violence against Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people.
The National Inquiry resulted in 231 Calls for Justice which are critical actions and legal imperatives that address violence, to create change that will be effective in ending violence and increasing safety.
Our Spirit is a national resurgence of Indigenous women and girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people implementing the Calls for Justice in Indigneous communities across Canada and online.

Community Safety Toolkit

Communities along the Highway of Tears worked together to develop a Community Safety Toolkit that supports Indigenous communities to create their own solutions to increase community safety and prevent violence, murder and disappearances. This toolkit has been adapted for use in Indigenous communities across Canada.
